Adding another feather to our Corporate Social Responsibility cap, we joined hands with Bandhan Konnagar, the not-for-profit arm of Bandhan for the ‘Healthy Baby Wealthy Nation’ project.
Bandhan-Konnagar runs socio-economic development programs across 10 states canvassing more than 6.5 lakh households. Their aim has always been to help reduce health expenditure of underprivileged families. The major components of their health program include health education, which is imparted through health forums and household visits. Besides this, free health, eye and polio camps are regularly conducted.
The Healthy Baby Wealthy Nation’ project is a three-year focused initiative aimed at reducing and preventing protein energy malnutrition and childhood diarrhea amongst children below the age of five. We aim to impact around 72,000 children through our undertaking, with special focus on children with severe malnutrition. Our goal is to reduce severe malnutrition in 50% of the children, by providing sustainable and long-term solutions for this existing problem.
We believe the key to a prosperous society are healthy children. Bandhan’s commitment to curb malnutrition and improve public health resonates with our need to aid in the betterment of the society.
The project will be implemented in 24 Gram Panchayats spread across 6 districts in West Bengal. These include Coochbehar, Alipurduar, Maldah, Birbhum, Purulia, and South 24 Parganas. In addition to addressing malnutrition, the project will also ensure access to safe drinking water and sanitation in the targeted communities. Under this initiative, Bandhan’s health team will organize various health forums and rallies emphasizing on child nutrition, the negative impacts of open defecation, importance of breast feeding and weaning and so on.
